Factors of Health Promotion and Life Satisfaction among the Aged with Disabilities

Abstract
Objective : This study aims to investigate how the life satisfaction is associated with the health related status of the disabled aged 50 and over.

Methods : In particular, the study focuses on how obstacle factors of health improvement (additional medical expenses for disability and the limitations in ADL) and promotion factors (the extent of needs ?fulfillment, supports from family and supports from friends and neighbors, and disability identification) have consequences through health improvement behaviors.

Results : The study, relying on multigroup analysis methods, also examines such relationship differs by the degree of disability. It utilized the data from 2016 Survey on the Disabled collected by the research team of the authors. The empirical test reveals high level of goodness of fit for the proposed model. In the model, ADL, family support and disability identification affects life satisfaction through health promotion behaviors while they have direct effects. According to multigroup analysis, health promotion behaviors are affected by additional medical expenses among those with severe disabilities whereas they are more influenced by family support among those with mild disabilities.

Conclusions : Based on the resul ts, the study made suggestions for the policy and practices to improve health for the disabled in old age.
